Signs Your Toddler Is Ready for Preschool

Wondering if it’s time to enroll your toddler in preschool? There’s no single magic age – every child develops differently. But there are some clear signs that your child may be ready to make the leap. Here’s what to look for.

1. They show interest in other children

If your toddler watches other kids play with wide eyes, tries to join in, or talks about other children after a playdate, they’re socially motivated – a great sign for group learning environments.

2. They can separate from you – even briefly

Perfect separation is not required – in fact, some adjustment is completely normal. But if your child can tolerate short separations without extended distress, they are likely ready for the gentle transition to a classroom environment.

3. They follow simple instructions

Two-step directions – ‘Get your shoes and bring them here’ – indicate enough language comprehension and working memory to participate in classroom routines.

4. They’re curious and engaged with the world

If your child asks ‘why’ and ‘what’s that?’ constantly, asks to be read to, and wants to touch and explore everything – welcome to preschool readiness. That curiosity is exactly what our educators are trained to nurture.
